Golf season begins for Carroll girls

The 2008 Carroll Lady Cougars golf team began its third season Aug. 4 at the Harrison Invitational played at the par 72 Coyote Crossing Golf Course in Lafayette. Carroll finished 14th with a team score of 422.

Senior Megan Garrison led the way with an 83, followed by Taylor Sproul with 101, Malena Zook 113, Kirsten Arkwright 125 and Emma Packard 139.

On Aug. 6, Carroll placed second at the Caston Invitational played at the par 72 Logansport Golf Course. Carroll's team total was 429. Garrison finished first with a 3 over par 75. Cougar scoring was rounded out by Sproul with 98, Zook 109 and Katie Unger 147.

On Aug. 8, the Cougars played in the Benton Central Invitational at the par 73 Oak Grove Country Club in Oxford. Carroll shot a 431 to finish ninth out of 14 teams. Garrison led the way with an 8 over par 81 to finish second. Completing the scoring were Sproul 102, Zook 108, Packard 142 and Unger 142.

"The girls are working very hard with only a few days practice before we had the first matches, but I can see a lot of improvement and potential," said Coach Erin Garrison. "They are a great group of girls and I'm proud of the way they are working on things".

The Cougars have strong senior leadership in Garrison, Sproul and Zook. Newcomers include Arkwright, Packard and Unger.

Garrison was last year's Lafayette Sectional champion and has competed in the regionals the last three years.

The Lady Cougars are coached by Erin Garrison and Jill Kressley.
