It's time to trim field corners
Untrimmed corner - difficult to see With school rapidly approaching visibility is very important at road intersections. There will be many school buses transporting students and many students driving to school.
The Carroll County Agriculture Association directors are asking members and area farmers to trim the tops out of corn stalks in the corners of their fields at road intersections. Roadsides also need to be mown at these corners in order to have good visibility. Several corners are not trimmed back at this time and some of the corners are not trimmed sufficiently for safe travel. These intersections need a clear line of vision for a minimum of 200 feet from the stop line down the adjacent road. There needs to be a clear zone from three feet to eight feet vertically from the ground in order for drivers to see oncoming traffic.
The picture shows the intersection where the Carroll School buses leave from the school and enter on highway 18. One can see the improved visibility once the corners are trimmed back at the proper distance for safe travel.
Trimmed corner affords greater visibility We appreciate all the farmers that will participate in trimming field corners back to help keep our roads safe and hopefully your efforts will save lives.
Special thanks to the Carroll County Comet, Merle Knaus, Ed Oyler, Sam Zook, and Dean Scott for helping with this project.
