Orville E. Shultheis
Orville E. Shultheis, 91, of Pyrmont, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi.
Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Tippecanoe County, he was the son of Marvin and Ida Schutz Shultheis. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1934. On Dec. 3, 1938, in Montmorenci, he married Ruby F. Sines, who preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1995.
Mr. Shultheis was employed by Tom Witter at his grocery from 1936 to 1939 before owning the Pyrmont Grocery, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the former Pyrmont United Methodist Church where he held several church offices, a charter member of the Carroll County United Fund, a member of the Pyrmont Cemetery Board and the Farm Bureau. He also volunteered at Milner Community Health Care Center in Rossville.
Mr. Shultheis enjoyed playing the harmonica. He won talent contests at the Carroll County 4-H Fair and the Rossville Summer's End Festival.
He traveled the United States and enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan C. Oaks (husband: Floyd) of West Lafayette; a son, Robert M. Shultheis (wife: Pat) of Rossville; a sister, Opal Campbell of Delphi; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Sandra Shultheis, also preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. The Rev. Jack Scott will officiate. Burial will be at Pyrmont Cemetery, Pyrmont. Visitation at the funeral home will be today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
