Louis D. Curtis, 77, of Bringhurst, died at 5:30 p.m. Fri., Aug. 1, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo, following a sudden illness.

Born Feb. 5, 1931, in Pierceton, he was the son of Alonzo and Orlue Atchinson Curtis. He married Orvaline Crain on Dec. 9, 1962, in Mishawaka, and she survives. They resided in Nappanee from 1972 through 2002 when they moved to Bringhurst.

Mr. Curtis was a retired cabinetmaker and minister. He had worked at Coppes Kitchens in Nappanee and pastored many churches, including the Church of God in Marion and the Bremen Assembly of God.

He was a member of the Assemblies of God.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed gardening and raising orchids.

Surviving with his wife are three sons, Barry Curtis (wife: Ruth) of South Bend, Jim Curtis (wife: Amanda) of Goshen, and Mike Curtis (wife: Jeanelle) of Douglasville, Ga.; two sisters, Dorothy Alley (husband: Bill) and Marge Hostetler (husband: Merle), both of Pierceton; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Robert, Raymond and Delbert, and six sisters, Thelma, Donna Belle, Lillian, Mary, Helen, and Evelyn.

Services were held Tuesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee. The Rev. Barry Curtis officiated, assisted by Pastor Steve Cole. Burial with military graveside rites followed at Union Center Cemetery.
