Seminars to focus on earthquake preparedness
As part of its earthquake preparedness, the District 4 Exercise Planning Committee will offer four seminars to enhance awareness in respect to earthquake hazards in the district. The seminars will be presented by Dr. Julio Ramirez, Professor of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Jennifer Haase, Associate Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Science at Purdue University.
Topics to be covered in the 1- 1/2 hour presentation include: Earthquake Basics, Earthquake Effects & Ground Shaking, Review of Local and Regional Hazard Estimates, Earthquake Effects on Infrastructure, Readiness, Readiness Examples from Other Cities and Response.
The New Madrid and Wabash Valley fault zones present serious earthquake risks to Indiana and the Midwest. Although direct effects in District 4 may vary depending on the epicenter location and severity of the earthquake, other potential residual effects could impact daily life and dayto day response operations.
The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. This is an informational seminar only.
