Kyla Ross, 16, Flora, was crowned Miss Carroll County 4-H Fair Queen. First runnerup was Andrea Foreman, second runner-up was Cassandra Allbaugh and Katrina Gibson was crowned Miss Congeniality.

Flora Police have determined that four or five juveniles are responsible for the recent vandalism at the old Flora Cemetery, located behind the Flora School on East Main Street. Several of the sandstone tombstones had been knocked over. Many stones were seriously damaged, some even shattered. The last burial there was in 1926. Abandoned cemeteries are by law the responsibility of the township.

The annual Old Settlers celebration of Delphi will get underway next Wednesday and continue through Saturday. The four-day event on the courthouse square is sponsored by Delphi chamber of Commerce.

Carroll County Emergency Ambulance Service will have its Delphi ambulance stationed on the south side of the courthouse during Old Settlers to acquaint interested citizens with the equipment and service offered.

The ambulance service was organized by the Carroll County Commissioners in 1977 with one ambulance in Delphi, one in Camden and one in Flora. Federal funds were provided to purchase these original ambulances, still in service.

The football field in Riley Park has been prepared and grass seed was sown Tuesday.

It had been hoped that the grass seed that had been there would show signs of life, although it appeared that it had been killed by the recent flood waters which stood in the park for several days.

County agent, Harold Berry, studied the situation, took samples and conferred with Purdue specialists who advised immediate reseeding. By following instructions of the Purdue men with favorable conditions, the grass will be ready for Delphi's first home football game this fall.

Recruiting for the Regular Army has been resumed when the U.S. Army Recruiting Office, Room 408 Federal Building, Indianapolis, Indiana, received authorization to enlist men in this district for the 11th Infantry and 3rd Field Artillery stationed at Fort Benj. Harrison, Indiana.

As a result of the recent suspension of enlistments a rush of applicants is expected, and in order that a choice of branches may be had would urge young men desiring to take advantage of this opportunity as all vacancies for the preferred regiments will surely be filled in a very short time. Applicants must have at least two years high school education.

Bringhurst Fire continued from last week -

The fire spread to the large barn owned by A.J. Metsker and used by Joseph Erb as a storage barn for feed and which also destroyed all of the hay, feed, etc., being lost in the flames. The loss here will reach at least $400.

The dwelling house of Claude Plank caught fire and though very strenuous efforts were made to save the building, it was of no avail and the house, with most of the contents were lost. The loss will be about $200.

The dry goods and grocery store of Caldwell & Bridge caught fire but was only partially destroyed, the men, by dint of hard work, saving building. While the goods were slightly damaged the loss to the firm will not be more than a few hundred dollars.

The fire was the most serious that has visited Bringhurst in a number of years. Still more next week!
