Deiwert Deiwert Former Delphi Mayor Sam Deiwert made such a decision recently and in a short memo issued Tuesday to Barb McClellan in the Indiana Republican Party, the Carroll County Republican Party Central Committee Chair announced his resignation effective Aug. 1.

Deiwert cited time needed for business expansion and personal interests as reasons he would no longer have the "time and focus to devote to the affairs of the local party organization."

Deiwert said Tuesday according to the rules, party vice-chair Penny Titus would call a caucus of precinct committeemen to fill his unexpired term. The vacancy is to be filled within 30 days.

Deiwert said he does not aspire to run for public office again. He said he brought his son Peter into his insurance business. They will be opening an office in Lafayette in the near future.

Deiwert said he wished the party well for the upcoming election, and beyond.

"There are a number of challenges facing the county," he said. "It is important that the most qualified people step into office to progressively pursue the best interests of the county."

"This move is the best thing for the party and for me," he said. "Going into the fall election there are some fundamental things that need to be built into the party which will take a lot of effort and time. But they will strengthen the party."

"There needs to be infrastructure in place in the party to carry it through to the 2010 election," he concluded.
