Official groundbreaking for the new 4,400-head Boerman-Carroll Dairy LLC, was held Tuesday morning south of Cutler, near SR 75 on CR 600S. Owners are the Gerrit and Janet Arendsen family. Their dairy is expected to yield milk production of 25,000 gallons per day. Ryan Westerfeld from the Indiana Department of Agriculture spoke about how the dairy fits into Governor Daniel's plans for the state's agriculture economy. Last November, Carroll County Economic Development Executive Director Daryl Smith said that the CCEDC is on track to strategically place three to four nice size dairies in Carroll County. The dairies are expected to generate millions of dollars in economic activity annually with the county benefiting from additional property tax revenues. Arendsen said that Carroll County is a good place and he hopes his sons will some day join the family business.
