Ruth Joan (McGoldrick) Gentry, 84, of Plainfield, passed away July 14, 2008.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1924, in Indianapolis, to the late Manuel and Alma (Johnson) McGoldrick. She was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and attended Butler University.

She and her late husband, R. Norwood Gentry, owned the Gentry Funeral Home in Camden from 1952 to 1964. They moved to Plainfield and purchased the current Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home and owned it until 1988.

Her memberships include PEO Sisterhood - Chapter AV, Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority, Plainfield Woman's Club and the Plainfield United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Jody Kaveney (husband: John) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jim Gentry of Los Angeles, Calif., Rhea

Thompson (husband: Ken) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Manuel Gentry (wife: Karen) of Plainfield; and four grandchildren, Matthew Rhoden, Lauren, Ryan and Erin Gentry.

Services were held Thursday at the Plainfield United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.

The Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield was in charge of arrangements.
