Fair ends with annual 4-H Livestock Auction
Countless volunteers helped to make the 2008 Carroll County 4-H Fair another great success. Young and old alike worked to pull everything together.
With continued support from the community, the 4- H Fair will be a successful program for our youth for years to come.
Friday night is the highlight for the livestock members. They are able to reap additional rewards for their efforts through the 4-H livestock auction.
Carroll County's 4-H Livestock Auction is a premium auction. Dollar values reflect the money the 4-H'er receives above the market value of the animal. All figures quoted are premium money only.
This year there were 108 buyers who participated in the auction with 179 livestock members selling animals. A total of $47,090 in premiums was paid out.
In appreciation, 4-H members returned a total of $1843.50 in donations. Of that amount $1078.50 went to the Todd Shaffer benefit and $765 went to various funds for the 4-H program. Thirty-nine 4-Her's participated in donating auction receipts.
The grand champion steer shown by Kristina Barnard will go to the state fair.
Chanler Norman's reserve grand champion steer sold for a premium of $2,275.00. Buyers were Abbott Funeral Home, Arnold and Mary Helen Abbott, Bartlett Ford, Jim, Julie, and Jay Blake, Bush Veterinary Services, Carroll County Tire, Don and Jane Craft, Double M, Excel Co-op, First Financial Bank, Heartland Hogs, Helms Lawn Care, Lavy Windows, Lafayette Bank and Trust, Steve and Connie Myers, Norman Eye Care, Optometric Management, Parrett's Meat Processing, Regions Bank, Salin Bank, and Sheridan Eye.
Hannah Scott's grand champion barrow received a $1,025 premium. Buyers included Brewster Insurance, CB&J Farms, Carroll County Tire Service Inc., Excel Co-op Inc,, Jeff Simmons, Kokomo Grain Co., Lafayette Bank & Trust, Mann Chevrolet-Buick, McIlrath Seed Service, Remington Seed LLC, Tom and Linda Mylet
The reserve grand champion barrow shown by Kara Overholser brought a premium of $525. Buyers for the reserve grand barrow were Bush Veterinary Services, Dean Scott Farms, Excel Co-op Inc., First Financial, Jeff Simmons, Kokomo Grain Co., and Payne's Pharmacy.
Cale Rader's grand champion gilt was not in the auction.
Halle Chambers received $700 in premium money for her reserve grand champion gilt. Buyers were CB&J Farms, Dean Scott Farms, Kim Black Farms, Kokomo Grain Co., Lafayette Bank & Trust, Reinke Funeral Home, Remington Seeds LLC, and The Andersons.
The grand champion goat shown by Geny Studebaker received $200 in premiums. Living Faith Church of the Brethren was the buyer.
Tara Skelton had the reserve grand champion goat and received a premium of $275. Buyers were Alexander Farms, Meister-Crowder Farm, and Heritage Farm.
Nathan O'Farrell was the grand champion in the meat pen category of the rabbit project. His meat pen brought a premium of $300.
Donna Salomon and Family, Excel Co-op Inc. and Lafayette Bank & Trust bought the rabbits. Jacob Rudd won reserve grand champion meat pen and received a $125 premium for his meat pen from Living Faith Church of the Brethren.
Other class champions are going home or to the state fair.
All grand and reserve champions in sheep are going to the state fair or returning home.
There were no champions from the poultry project entered in the auction.
