Ball Hill Cemetery history walk is Friday
      Ball Hill Cemetery in southeastern Carroll County is the site of a history walk to be offered at 7 p.m. July 18. Many in the area feel a special bond to the cemetery and the old Methodist church that used to stand there. Mark Smith, a researcher of Carroll County history, will narrate the walk.

Camden wants extension of SR 75 a priority
      County Economic Development Director Daryl Smith presented EDC's budget for 2008 at Camden's July 10 council meeting. Officials approved the negotiated rate of $3.80 per resident for a total of $2,166. Smith also requested the town consider pooling Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) monies in excess of .1% with Delphi, Flora and Burlington.

Awards given for 'best bugs'
      As part of the Camden Library's summer reading program, "Catch the Reading Bug," children created their own bugs, using miscellaneous items in a bag. Thirty-four children have been participating in summer reading and in the bug contest.

Malachi Jaggers to promote newest CD at release concert in Delphi
      Malachi Jaggers is debuting his second CD, "Rumble in My Soul," Saturday evening at a CD release concert in the Little Theatre at Delphi Community High School. The 7 p.m. concert will feature special guests Levi Riggs from The Overtones and Christopher Gipson. Admission is free.

Sixth graders' pocket flags reach servicemen in Iraq
      As a Kids in Action project this past school year, Carroll Elementary sixth graders folded 300 8x12 in. fabric flags into pocket-size flag triangles for servicemen and women. The flags were sent to Joint Base Balad, Iraq, where Mark Calhoun of Chicago is stationed. He's formerly of Flora.

Free Child ID program is offered at 4-H fair
      Statistics show that over 1 million children are reported missing in the United States each year. "A child's disappearance must be a parent's worst nightmare," opined Dick Anderson, Master of the Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 111.

Log jam clean-up to be partially reimbursed by FEMA
      Work is complete on the log jam north of town, announced Burlington Town Council President Stan Moore at the July 8 meeting. The town will receive 75% reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for damage to the sewage treatment plant and tile caused by the log jam on Wildcat Creek, reported council member Teddy Huffer.

Half-Century Awards deadline Aug. 8
      Gov. Mitch Daniels' Century and Half-Century Business Awards honor Indiana businesses that have operated for at least 50 or 100 years and have demonstrated a history of community service. More than 1,000 companies from across the state have been recognized during the 17-year history of the awards.
