Sawmill model
This model of a sawmill, powered by a steam engine, was built by the late Charles A. Lively Jr. and donated to the Carroll County Historical Museum by his father, Charles A. Lively Sr. It is a model of the Charles West Sawmill, once located at Lockport on Burnett's Creek, which supplied water for the steam engine to operate. The engine also was used for custom threshing throughout the county. Charles West was the model builder's great-great-grandfather. Having only an old photograph to work from and after a lot of research, Mr. Lively completed the project over a three-month period. The model was all built from scratch, using plastic pipe for the boiler, wheels, and pulleys. The saw blades were hand cut. Mr. Lively built the model to honor his grandmother, Hilda Lively, and her favorite grandfather, Charles West. Mr. Lively had collected and built scale model cars for more than 25 years. He died last April at age 50. His model can be seen at the museum during summer hours - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and during Old Settlers, Aug. 6 through 9.
