After more than twenty years as a catch-all for dumpers, a site at SR39 and 575S, along the Wildcat Creek in Carroll County, may finally be cleaned up. The site contains a vast collection of tires, appliances, and assorted refuse, beside the flowing waters of the stream.

Three honorable young men paid tribute to the Potawatomi Indian people by erecting markers along the historic Trail of Death in Carroll County. Boy Scouts, Crispin Andrews, Matt Trapp, and Kris Cannon, earned their Eagle Scout designation for organizing the preparation of the historical markers.

Chief Basil White Eagle blessed the spot where each of the three markers had been placed and offered that the sites be considered sacred ground.

With all the discussion about a bypass around "The Sycamores" on State Road 29 at the south edge of Deer Creek, we can't help but ask the question, "Are those sycamores going to stand forever?"

Although they may be there, or at least many of them, for several years to come, close examination proves that more than one could be toppled easily because of decay and rot.

Delphi city officials have a bigger "Kingdom" over which to rule than they ever supposed. Last week the Journal reported that the city thought it was the county's duty to remove a tree which fell across the road during the flood in the park annex and vice versa. The city officials finally gave up and now proudly reign over their enlarged domain. Paul Goyer, street superintendent, reports the tree removed and the road open to traffic.

The ordinance annexing the park annex area was published in September, 1952 and brought into the corporation limits all that area not already a part of the city bounded by the north bank of Deer Creek the east side of Highway 421, along North street to the west finally to the Dayton Road on the west.

Indiana joined nine other states in voting for repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment, according to the official returns from Tuesday's election, while Carroll county remained true to tradition in the dry column. Both is what was predicted by those in close touch with affairs of the wet and dry.

Indiana is about two to one wet with a dry majority in Carroll county of 778. Nine townships voted dry and four wet. In Deer Creek township two precincts, number one in South Delphi and number three, the silk stocking district voted dry while precincts number 2 where the jail is located, number five, the bloody fifth, the courthouse, went wet.

Bringhurst suffered a heavy loss from fire Tuesday morning at an early hour and for a short time the flames threatened to wipe the town off the map, but fortunately the fire was gotten under control. It is thought the fire was of an incendiary nature.

The fire first started in the butcher shop conducted by Walter DeMar and is supposed to have started about 4 o'clock in the morning. When it was discovered it had a good start and as the town has no fire protection, the flames spread rapidly. Continued next week…
