Portraits by Lori photo The 51st annual Carroll County 4-H Fair Queen Contest will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in the show arena at the 4-H fairgrounds in Flora.

This year's theme is "A Dazzling Evening," featuring an outdoor winter lodge setting. The contestants have been busy preparing for the pageant with meetings, mock interviews, a make-up session, and practicing stage walking.

Prejudging was held a few weeks ago, said contest cochairman Deb Foreman. "Traditionally prejudging was held the same day as the contest, but it was too much to accomplish in one day for the girls and for the committee."

Contestants will be seen that evening in professional wear and evening wear. They will each answer an impromptu question selected just for them.

A queen and three runnerups will be chosen by the judges, along with Miss Congeniality, chosen by the contestants.

The court will preside over the 4-H Fair, presenting ribbons and attending events. The queen will represent Carroll County at the State Fair pageant to be held in August.

Miss Carroll County 2007, Desiray Simmons, will cohost the pageant, along with Jay Dee Cree of Camden. Miss Simmons will highlight her events from the past year as reigning queen. Past Carroll County Queens will be introduced as well as any visiting queens. The newly crowned Little Miss and Mister will also be introduced, along with the entire court.

Serving as ushers will be Michael Myers and Kyle Bender.
