Beware of fraudulent checks
      The Comet has learned that many county residents are receiving fraudulent checks in the mail stating in various ways that the recipient is the winner of a lottery or contest.

CCAA urges common sense approach to use of pesticides
      One of the goals of the newly formed Carroll County Agriculture Association is to provide information that is helpful for the entire community with the concerns of pesticide use. One of the major concerns of its members is educating the public about aerial application of fungicides.

New fair queen to be crowned
Miss Carroll County Queen Contest Saturday July 12, 7 p.m. Show Arena, 4-H Fairgrounds, Flora
      The 51st annual Carroll County 4-H Fair Queen Contest will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in the show arena at the 4-H fairgrounds in Flora. This year's theme is "A Dazzling Evening," featuring an outdoor winter lodge setting. The contestants have been busy preparing for the pageant with meetings, mock interviews, a make-up session, and practicing stage walking.

Little Miss & Mister to be crowned Friday
      The annual Carroll Little Miss & Mister Pageant will be held Friday evening at 7 in the show arena at the 4-H fairgrounds in Flora. Special guest will be Miss Indiana State Fair 2008 Kristen Schmitt. The 20-year old is a junior at the University of South Indiana in Evansville, majoring in elementary education.

Sam Zook is re-elected Carroll board president
      A new Carroll School Board organized July 1, with two new board members, a re-elected board member, and two members continuing their terms. Serving on the board for the first time are Michelle Simmons and Rick Eller. Sam Zook was re-elected, and the remaining two are Dave Lambert and Eric Johnson.

Independence Day Parade came off without a hitch
      The annual Independence Day Parade held in Delphi and sponsored by the Delphi Lions Club was a rousing success Saturday. Fifty-one floats, tractors and participants, which included the Delphi Community High School Marching Band, traveled the parade route in front of a large crowd of spectators.
