Canal Days are Saturday and Sunday
Blacksmith at Canal Days, 2007 Canal Days, July 5 and 6, celebrate the 1800s when Delphi was an important port along the Wabash & Erie Canal.
The weekend will be packed with activities for all ages. Both children and adults will enjoy exploring the newly installed full-sized "Playground Boat" at Canal Park. There will be children's games as well throughout each day.
All Canal Park buildings will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 on Sunday.
Many pioneer crafts will be demonstrated and some crafters will have items for sale. Hand- made items also can be purchased at the Bowen log cabin gift shop.
For a special treat, come to the Reed Case House Saturday afternoon from 1 to 5 to see a craftsman demonstrate how to apply rope to an antique rope bed. This historic 1844 house, the log school house, and the Canal Interpretive Museum will be open for tours both days.
Canal boat rides will be offered at 11 a.m. and 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Boat rides and carriage rides will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Pony cart rides will be given both days.
For those who prefer walking, narrated towpath walks will begin at 3 p.m. both days.
Food will be available, including ice cream and homemade pie.
The skit "Life on the Canal" will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
There will be a drawing for a hand-made pie safe at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Examples of some of the displays and demonstrations both days are Indian artifacts, blacksmithing, bird-house building, wooden toys, potpourri and gourds, china painting, book binding, crocheting, tatting, fiber art, and bowl carving.
