Hoosier Home Cookin'
      In entertaining weekend guests, I served these two recipes recently. I think you'll enjoy them both. Sausage Mushroom Breakfast Bake is a slightly different take on the traditional breakfast casserole. To me, it was lighter, fluffier and richer than other similar recipes. Maybe it's the addition of sour cream and cream of mushroom soup!

Timothy Banter to oppose McClain
      Timothy J. Banter, Jr. filed to run as Democratic candidate for State Representative District 24. He will oppose incumbent Rich McClain in the fall general election. Banter attended Stephen Decatur High School, a Department of Defense Dependent School, in Sicily, Italy, and graduated in 1993.

Workday at Deer Creek Park
      Friends of Carroll County Parks held a workday recently at Deer Creek Park. The old tennis court fence and some playground equipment were in disrepair and were removed. Trees were trimmed and flowers planted.

Purdue Garden Calendar
      JULY HOME (Indoor plants and activities) Watch closely houseplants that have been set outdoors. They need more water than they did indoors. They can dry out rapidly in hot, summer breezes. Propagate houseplants by taking cuttings from vigorously growing plants. Place cut end in rooting media, such as perlite, vermiculite or peat moss soil mix.

      The Fourth of July celebration will be held at Burlington Community Park on Friday. Activities will begin at 5 p.m. with a hog roast being served until dusk, live entertainment until 9 p.m., and miniature golf set up to play until dark. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

      A public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. July 3 at the Town Office to conduct a budget workshop for 2009. An antique tractor pull will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the park. Camden American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Legion Home. Hostesses will be Helen Simmerman and Dorothy Stark.

      The women of Faith Lutheran Church WELCA will meet at the church on July 8 at 11:30 p.m. All the women of the church are invited to attend. On July 8 at 7 p.m., the Habitat for Humanity Board will meet at the Camden-Jackson Twp. Public Library.

      Flora-Monroe Twp. The library will be closed Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. It's July, it's hot, and it's sticky outside. Cool off at our big Water Show on Tuesday July 8, at 10:30 a.m. In the show, water will disappear, reappear and magically move from one place to another - and we all get wet!

Use caution and be safe
      With the fireworks season in full swing, Indiana citizens and retailers are reminded of state law governing the use and sale of fireworks. "When handled by professionals, a fireworks show may look easy, but each year they cause injury, death and property damage because of misuse and accidents," said Jim Greeson, State Fire Marshal.
