Evelyn "Jean" Sturdivant, 80 of Logansport, died at 2 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, in her residence.

Born Nov. 28, 1927, in Royal Center, she was the daughter of John W. and Myrtle Nice Stratton. On Sept. 15, 1944, in Young America, she was married to James Walter "Mousy" Sturdivant. He preceded her in death May 20, 1986.

A homemaker, Mrs. Sturdivant was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was also active in the Golden Agers of Yorktown Road Church of Christ.

For many years, she volunteered as a Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital in Logansport.

She was also a member of the Ypsilon Chapter of Gamma Nu and was active in the Widow to Widow group for many years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and collecting ceramic chickens. Most of all, Jean loved being with family and friends.

Surviving are two sons, James Robert Sturdivant of Logansport and John Allen Sturdivant (wife: Joyce) of Camden; two daughters, Janet L. Hartle, Logansport, and Debra J. Gezen (husband: Rif) of Alpharetta, Ga.; six grandchildren, David Sturdivant (friend: Kelly Weaver) of Indianapolis, Mark Sturdivant of Lafayette, Michael Sturdivant (wife: Karis) of Camden, Stephen Sturdivant of Camden, Kristin Sturdivant of Logansport, and Travis Holcomb (wife: Christina) of Logansport; five great-grandchildren, Kendra, Jaden and Jonathan Sturdivant, of Camden, and T. J. and Tyler Holcomb of Logansport; special friends, Howard Helvie, Christine Huffman, Cheryl Langler, Roxie Dailey, Marian Benson, Olin and Princess Cody, Carol Vance, and Helen Brutcher; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Jason, and nine brothers and sisters.

Services were held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, on Monday, with the Rev. Scott Ellison officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
