DCES presents year-end awards

      Delphi Community Elementary School presented awards to students for their efforts this school year. Recipients were as follows: Library awards Top Ten Readers accumulated between 599 and 1,305 points each while reading many of the 42,301 books read by students this year. The top three readers received a certificate and trophy.

'Catch the Reading Bug'
     Up close and personal Dylan Spesard takes a close look at a Madagascar cockroach at the Purdue Bug in a Bag program at the Flora Public Library. At the end of the program, children could touch and hold the insects. Prof. Alan York of the Purdue Dept. of Entomology gave the children strict rules: "Do not drop my insects. Do not step on my insects. Do not eat my insects." The informational bug show was part of the library's summer reading program, "Catch the Reading Bug." Comet photo by Jennifer Archibald

      Two Delphi women were among the 589 graduating students who received degrees at DePauw University's 169th commencement held May 18. MEGAN LYNN WALTON received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is the daughter Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Walton. JAMIE ANN NIPPLE received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark R. Nipple.
