Photo provided Several students from Carroll County will be receiving help with the cost of going to college this fall through scholarships awarded by the Carroll County Community Foundation. The Foundation has awarded approximately $212,000 in scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year, including the two Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. The recipients of these scholarships were recognized at a reception held June 5 in Delphi.

"With the rising costs of a postsecondary education, we recognize that every bit of financial assistance is a great help," says Alan Jackson, chair of the Carroll County Community Foundation Board of Directors. "These students are all well-deserving of the scholarships that they have been awarded and we feel honored to assist them in achieving their future goals."

Scholarship recipients are:

Burlington Kiwanis Scholarship - This fund provides scholarships for deserving graduating seniors from Carroll County, who will be attending a post-secondary educational institution. Recipient is Drew Ayres, a 2008 graduate of Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School and son of Kirk and Chrystal Ayres. Drew plans to attend Lincoln Technical School to study diesel mechanics.

Indiana Packers Corporation Scholarship Fund - Established to provide scholarships to a deserving Carroll County graduate who will be pursuing a degree in agriculture. Recipient is Kristina Barnard, daughter of David and Lisa Barnard, and a 2008 graduate of Delphi Community High School. Kristina will attend Purdue University to study pre-veterinary medicine.

Irving E. Manning Scholarship Fund - Established by Joyce Manning and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Manning in memory of her husband and Paul's father. This fund provides scholarships for students graduating from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School who will be attending a post-secondary educational institution and who might not otherwise be able to attend a university or community college/technical school. This year's recipient is Nicholas Jones, a 2008 graduate, and son of Troy and Rhonda Jones. He will study theatre at Indiana State University.

Receiving renewal scholarships from the Manning fund are Shane Clingenpeel, Purdue University; Lori Smith, St. Joseph's College; Annette Miller, Purdue University.

Joan McCain Scholarship Fund - Established to provide scholarships to deserving students graduating from Delphi Community High School. Recipient is Sarah McTigue, daughter of Neal and Elizabeth McTigue. Sarah Ivy Tech Community College, where she plans to study respiratory therapy.

John McCormick Agricultural Scholarship Fund - Established by John and Mary McCormick to provide scholarships for qualified students graduating from Delphi Community High School. Recipient is Morgan Minnicus, daughter of Jerry and Peg Minnicus. Morgan will attend Purdue University and study pre-veterinary medicine.

Lewis and Hazel Mullin Scholarship Fund - The scholarship provides support to Delphi Community High School graduates who will study at any Indiana college or university and are likely to succeed as college or university students. Recipients are Elizabeth Britt, daughter of Gregory and Michelle Britt, and Matthew Keen, son of Richard and Rhonda Keen. This fall, Elizabeth will study premedicine at St. Joseph College and Matthew will study entomology at Purdue University.

Dorothy Stark Scholarship Fund - The fund provides scholarships for students from Jackson Township who will be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary learning. Recipient is Koby Sieber, a 2008 graduate of DCHS and son of Jeff and DeAnna Sieber. Koby will study criminal justice at Ivy Tech Community College.

Mid-North Indiana Executive Committee for Christ Scholarship - Established in 2006 for deserving students who have graduated from an accredited Indiana high school, who are residents of Carroll, Cass, or Clinton counties. Recipients are:

John Mitchel, son of Roy and Susan Mitchel, is a 2008 Rossville High School graduate and will attend Purdue University to study business management.

Kayleigh Morgan, daughter of Cheryl Morgan, graduated this year from DCHS and will attend Purdue University to study occupational therapy.

J. Elise Garate, daughter of Cuauhtémoc and Emmalee Garate, graduated from Pioneer Jr.-Sr. High School and will attend Johnson Bible College to study education.

Carroll County Community Foundation Scholars - The finalists in the competition for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships are recognized. Recipients are:

Kristen Arnett, daughter of David and Tamie Arnett, and a 2008 graduate of CJSHS. Kristen will attend the University of Indianapolis to study business marketing.

Kyle Bender, son of Kevin and Denise Bender, is a 2008 graduate of DCHS. Kyle will attend Wabash College and study economics and history.

Michelle Burke, daughter of Tim and Julie Burke, is a 2008 Twin Lakes High School graduate. Michelle will study accounting at the University of Indianapolis.

Shane Evans, son of Shawn Evans and Shannon Kelley-Evans, is a 2008 DCHS graduate. Shane will major in biology and chemistry at Wabash College.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships - Going into its eleventh year, the scholarship program has assisted almost 2,700 Indiana high school graduates in pursuing baccalaureate degrees at Indiana colleges and universities. Carroll County's recipients are:

Kylee German, daughter of Randy and Nina German, is a 2008 DCHS graduate. Kylee will attend Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion to study mathematics education.

Angela Jackson, daughter of Marilyn Jackson, is a 2008 graduate of CJSHS. Angela will attend Taylor University to study physics and pre-medicine.

The Carroll County Community Foundation, established in 1997, is a not-for-profit charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The purpose of the Foundation is to serve the interests of donors, to make grants, and to act as a catalyst around issues of community importance in Carroll County. It provides a way for people of all means to make a lasting difference in their community.
