The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and the Carroll County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) have been working together on a "Community Connections-Economic Development Plan." This plan is designed to encourage the growth and financial stability of Carroll County. The 12 projects proposed by this plan will require a committed mind-set and dedicated resources to help retain current businesses, bring in new businesses, and to increase a diverse and healthy economic tax base within the county.
Booker The EDC and Chamber have done more than just talk about a change; we are taking the steps in moving forward. We have consulted with our neighboring Chambers and economic development corporations to solicit their thoughts and ideas about the proposed projects. Many areas have already developed a strong economic base and we can learn from their experience. Carroll County also recently concluded a strategic plan by consultants Dick Heupel and Bob St. Claire that offered guidance in the strengthening of our economy.
As we talk about how to pay for these projects we have asked Dr. Larry DeBoer, an expert in discussing local tax information to speak at our June Businessto Business meeting on June 25 at 11 a.m., at the Wabash & Eric Canal Conference Center. This is an open meeting to the public.
We concentrated our efforts on attainable goals in the design of our project list. There is cost associated with moving things forward, but we are working to be good stewards and use the funding wisely. Would you pay the cost of a cup of coffee to help this county move forward? We will request the EDIT tax increase of 00.15% that will amount to less than $1 per wage earner per week to support these projects. Is it worth a dollar to see the county advance and produce?
Carroll County is known for its beauty and strong family values. We want families to stay here and for this county to become a great place for commerce. Only as a united group can we hope to encourage and support economic development and retention of our local businesses. We can make a positive difference in the community by working together, moving forward, and all for a cup of coffee.
