Food, spirits and dancing 'strikes' a chord for Carroll County economy

A new business in an old location is due to open just outside of Delphi by August. The Manor Lounge, located on the former Ten Pin Alley site, offering food, drinks, live bands, dancing, billiards, a banquet room and wireless Internet access, will offer hospitality, friendliness and good service, said owner and operator Fred Hegel. Hegel has owned the building since 1989 and operated a bowling alley in it for 13 years. After a failed attempt at a contract sale, Hegel decided to refurbish the building and open a business designed to draw a wide variety of customers. House band, Merle's Genes, will provide original, progressive rock and roll compositions for dancers, complete with black lights. A dining deck will accommodate approximately 90 people. The old was not totally discarded. Hegel explained wood from lanes one-through-five of the bowling alley are now the dance floor and the bar top is made from the approaches to bowling lanes. The business will employ 25 to 30 people. Comet photo by Debbie Lowe
