Mary Ann Vansickle Babb Hackett
Services for Mary Ann Vansickle Babb Hackett, 78, of Logansport, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, Royal Center Chapel.
She died at 1:22 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 6, 1929, in Howard County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Herman D. and Sallie Mae (Warwick) Vansickle. On May 16 1948, she married Stanley E. Babb and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1978.
Mary Ann was a 1948 Royal Center High School graduate.
She was a member of Crooked Creek Christian Church, and attended Indian Creek Christian Church, Lucerne, and Yorktown Road Church of Christ, Logansport.
Mary Ann was also a member Met-N-Et Extension Homemakers Club, Christian Women's Fellowship, Thornhope Ladies Aid, and Logansport Senior Center. She was treasurer of the Royal Center High School Class of 1948 Alumni Association and she had formerly volunteered at the Cass County 4-H Fair Concession Stand. She enjoyed crafts and also making cords for high school seniors.
Mary Ann had been a cook at Pioneer Jr.Sr. High School and retired in 1995 from the Logansport State Hospital Dietary Dept. after 20 years.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Andrew Babb and wife Tina of Royal Center and Timothy John Babb and wife Janet of Flora; two daughters Winifred Mae Babb of Noblesville and Jennifer Lou Ellison and husband Fred of Pembroke, North Carolina; one brother, Herman D. Vansickle and wife Iris of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Elizabeth Houser of Indianapolis; one half sister, Reba Johnson of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Tina and Charles Babb of Royal Center, Delbert Spencer Burton is in the U.S. Army serving in Iraq, Annette Williams and husband Keith of Georgia, Christina Layer of Walkerton, Belinda Jo Wright and husband Chris of Georgia, Ryan Babb and wife Courtney of Anderson and Allison Babb of Muncie; and two great-grandchildren, Bradlee Wright of Georgia and Nathanial Babb of Anderson.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Francis L. "Bud" Hackett on Dec. 4, 1994, who she married on July 28, 1979; two granddaughters, Deborah Kathleen Burton and Bridgett Renee Babb; and two half brothers Robert and Herbert Turner.
Pastor Adrian "Crit" Whitlock will officiate the service and burial will be in Indian Creek Christian Cemetery, Lucerne. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, Royal Center Chapel.
