Charles R. Shultheis

Charles R. Shultheis, 87, of Brookston, passed away May 30, 2008, at 6:05 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. He had been a patient there since April 22.

He was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Clay Township in Carroll County, to the late Elbert and Hazel Rohrabaugh Shultheis. His first marriage was to Edna Yuill in Pyrmont on Jan. 16, 1944. She preceded him in death Jan. 29, 1979. He then married Ruth A. Gushwa Mears in Delphi on March 23, 1982, and she survives.

Mr. Shultheis was a 1938 graduate of Delphi High School. He farmed all of his life on his family farm in Clay and Madison townships. His farm received the Hoosier Homestead Award from the State of Indiana.

Mr. Shultheis moved to Brookston after his second marriage. He was a member of the former Pyrmont EUB Church, then Pyrmont Methodist Church, and was currently a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, wintering in Jenson Beach, Fla., and truly loved farming.

Surviving are his wife in Brookston; two daughters, Marilyn K. Shultheis of Delphi and Sharon Dewing (husband: Bob) of Kentland; a stepson, Robert Mears (wife: Dee) of Chalmers; three stepdaughters, Cindy Wasson (husband: Rick) of Monticello, Rosemary L. Mears of Lorton, Va., and Jennifer Pritts (husband: Mark) of Burnettsville; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 15 stepgreat grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi, with the Rev. Joe Hornick officiating. Burial was at Pyrmont Cemetery.
