Mary Ellen Johnson, 93, of Galveston, went home to be with the Lord at 5:23 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at her home in Galveston.

Born Dec. 28, 1914, in Carroll County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Edwin and Blanche Mitchell McCain. She married Merrill C. Johnson on Nov. 27, 1931, in Louisville, Ky., and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1994.

Mrs. Johnson worked at Englin's Shoes in Kokomo for 20 years, Haynes Stellite for 10 years, and Olsons in Logansport.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galveston.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, Christian music, especially the Gaithers and collecting shoes.

Surviving are two daughters, Janine Thieke and Sharon Edens (husband: Tom), both of Galveston; a son, Jan Johnson of Galveston; a brother, Danny McCain of Springfield, Ill.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Galveston. The Rev. Aaron Webb and the Rev. Warren Purcell officiated. Burial was at Beech Grove Cemetery, Sharon.
