Awards a-plenty at Lions Club banquet
Delphi Lions Club presented several awards and scholarships during its annual awards banquet May 21. Thirty-five members and 11 guests were present.
The club's Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Delphi high school business teacher Laurie Kinzie. She has been an educator there for 21 years and was nominated by a student.
DCHS Scholarship recipients were seniors Arielle Brosman, Jennifer Maxwell and Brittany Tyner. Each was presented a $500 scholarship.
Bob Tyner was named Lion of the Year. He said when he became a member he found "Lionism" was about service to the local community and beyond through many projects and donations. He said he felt honored and was thankful for the award.
William L. Maxwell was awarded the W.P. Woods Lions Award for exceptional service to the local and state Lions organizations.
Terry Callender accepted the Melvin Jones Award based on outstanding service to the local club and community.
Mike Shockley was named outstanding light bulb/broom salesman of the year.
Darrell Noonkester received a certificate from the Department of Homeland Security for his efforts during the January flood.
A 50-year membership chevron was presented to Russell Smith. Meredith Burge, Bob Conner and Jerry Wagoner received 40-year chevrons.
