Completes training
Army Reserve Pvt. Jack J. Allen has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
Allen is the son of Penny R. and stepson of Stan M. Braden of rural Camden. He is a 2006 graduate of Delphi Community High School.
Flory deploys on Peleliu
Navy Ensign William L. Flory, son of Marilyn J. and Brent A. Flory of Delphi, departed on a scheduled deployment as part of the Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) while assigned to the guided-missile cruiser USS Cape St. George, homeported in San Diego.
Prior to deploying, Flory and more than 5,500 sailors and marines of the Peleliu ESG successfully completed a Composite Training Unit Exercise and a Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX). The JTFEX is the final step in preparing the strike group for deployment, and is designed to test its ability to operate in a complex, hostile environment with other U.S. and coalition forces.
USS Cape St. George is an Aegis-equipped cruiser able to engage in offensive actions against the enemy through employment of longrange anti-shipping missiles and naval gunfire.
Flory is a 2002 graduate of Delphi Community High School and joined the Navy in January 2007. He is a 2006 graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette, West Lafayette, with a BS degree.
