Amanda Overmyer - true to herself
Overmyer Carroll County native Amanda Overmyer made it to the Top 11 on American Idol, just missing the Top 10 who will travel around the country on a concert tour this summer.
But America has not heard the last of Amanda. Tuesday she appeared on "The Today Show," and Friday she is scheduled to appear and perform on "The Ellen De- Generes Show." It airs at 11 a.m. on NBC.
America took notice of the bluesy rocker chick who would not compromise who she is or the rock music she loves.
She hopes her distinct style and personality will still carve out a career in music.
She knows she has fans in her hometown of Mulberry and throughout Tippecanoe and Carroll counties.
Amanda is a 2002 graduate of Delphi Community High School. While she was still in the running for American
Idol, good luck wishes were posted on the Delphi Middle School outdoor sign and were on a banner on the Delphi viaduct.
Delphi teacher Kevin Kayser said Amanda was one of his choral students all through school.
"She was always comfortable on stage and had a great voice," he recalls.
Kayser said she was a member of The Entertainers and performed several solos and duets with the group.
Carroll County will be watching closely to see how Amanda's music career takes off.
