DCSC board tunes into music department needs
A decision made by the Delphi Community School Corporation Board of Trustees during its regular meeting Monday night was music to the ears of the high school band and choral directors. New risers were purchased and the school's music department was provided funding.
Band director Jay Dennison told the board a music department fund used to be part of the high school budget, but was removed a few years ago.
New choral risers will replace a 20 year-old set used in the Little Theatre for $4,062. The music department was budgeted $22,000 to be paid over the next five years for school-owned musical instrument repair and maintenance.
In response to a question from board member Melinda Rossetter, DCSC Superintendent Ralph Walker explained the cost would be worked into the high school's budget.
Boiler repair approved
The board approved $27,190 for re-tubing of the high school boiler. Walker said several options were considered but the chosen course of action was considerably cheaper than alternatives.
"We looked at two or three options," Walker said. "The tubing cost was very good and should allow the boiler to last another five to 10 years."
Other business
Walker was granted permission to host a Community Prayer Breakfast at the high school on Aug. 13 from 6:30 to 8:15 a.m. The event will include food, music and a possible visit by an Indianapolis Colts player.
Resignations from Ashley Cook, high school Spanish teacher, effective at the end of the 2007-08 school year, and Blake Miller, high school night custodian, were approved.
High school science teacher Jessica Berger was granted permission to switch to a halftime teaching role. Walker said that change, along with vocational funding for half of another teacher's time, would allow the department to hire another full-time science teacher.
Classified staff approved for employment were: Ryan Finn high school volunteer assistant baseball coach; Kyle Robertson, Michael Lowery and Jeff Shuler, high school assistant baseball coaches; Patti Hudelson and Kent Sales, middle school assistant swim coaches; Sue Condon, Sophomore Class Sponsor (in replacement of Amy Adams); Laurie Kinzie, Student Council co-sponsor; and Arrika Ruemler, Student Council cosponsor and Family and Consumer Science Department Chair.
The next regular meeting will be April 14 at 7 p.m. in the corporation office.
