Kudos to our youth

2008-02-20 / Opinions & Letters

Carroll County has a lot of reasons these days to be extremely proud of its youth.

The Delphi Community High School wrestling team has had a phenomenal season, with several team and individual honors being received. Two wrestlers - Donovan Alderman and Michael Atwood - placed in the top four in the state in their respective weight classes. Teammate Shane Evans was named to the First Team Academic All-State Wrestling Team.

As a team, DCHS won its first ever regional crown and five wrestlers advanced to semi-state competition - Alderman, Atwood, Bob Floyd, Aaron Back and Randy McIlrath.

Carroll also had a wrestler, Chase Meade, advance to semi-state competition.

Carroll girls won their first basketball sectional since 1998, under the direction of a new coach, Mike Mc- Croskey. What this team lacked in height, they made up for in tenacity.

These honors did not come to these athletes without a lot of hard work and dedication. We commend them and their coaching staffs for jobs well done!
