Burlington to work on collaborate efforts to improve the town
      Township trustee Al Jackson reported at the Feb. 12 meeting of the Burlington Town Council that Janet Ayres, a professor and Extension specialist in leadership development at Purdue University, is willing to assist various groups and organizations in town in coming together as a community to brainstorm how to collaborate and make the community better.

Callout meeting set for county queen contest
      A call out meeting for the 2008 Miss Carroll County 4-H Fair Queen Contest has been set for March 13 at the Camden Jackson Township Public Library, Camden. Any girls ages 16-21 interested in competing in the pageant should attend. Information concerning pageant rules will be explained, as will the schedule for summer activities. Other meeting dates will be given.

Refusal to wear bracelet lands former county employee back in jail
      Rebecca Lohmiller, the former county employee who served as health nurse for more than five years and was later convicted of practicing medicine without a license and fraud, was re-arrested last weekend. A no-bond warrant was issued for Rebecca Lohmiller's arrest Feb.

Keeping the city on target for the highway
      Delphi Board of Works entered into a contract with Hannum, Wagle & Cline Engineering to aid the city with connectivity issues related to the Hoosier Heartland Highway. The contract will not exceed $17,500. According to firm representative Brian Pohlar, the engineering firm will help the city through the relinquishment process, such as paving, drainage and city utilities.

Crash near Flora sends four to area hospitals
      Carroll County Sheriff's Department responded to a twocar crash on SR18 and CR250W, just west of Flora, Feb. 12 at 3:15 p.m. A 1995 blue Dodge Neon, driven by Douglas R. Stewart, 50, Camden, traveling east bound on SR18 struck a west bound maroon 1992 Buick, driven by Estevan M. Montoya, 19, Flora.

River dweller upset about source of flood relief funds
      It isn't that Carroll County resident Gene Rossetter doesn't appreciate the government's generosity - he simply doesn't think taxpayers should have to pay for others' mistakes. Rossetter owns property on the Tippecanoe River near CR525W. He said his grandfather purchased the land in 1932 and began to build homes for family members there in 1940.

County police nab gun burglars
      On Feb. 9 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Carroll County Sheriff Deputy Grant Davidson responded to a residential burglary in the southeast portion of the county. The victims informed him of missing firearms, computer equipment, jewelry, cash and other items.

Electrical safety expert presents live line demo
      Area volunteer fire departments, wrecker services, EMS, sheriff's, city and town police departments and local construction companies were able to witness a live line safety demonstration on Feb. 11. The two and a half hour demonstration was presented by Kyle Finley, owner of Live Line Demo, Inc.

      Camden native Amanda Overmyer, age 23, is one of the final 24 contestants in the American Idol competition. She and the other female contestants will perform tonight (Wednesday) on the Fox network. On Thursday night, two people will be voted off.

Computer scams hit county
      The Carroll County Sheriff's Office has recently investigated several reports of computergenerated scams. Victims receive correspondence via their computer that requests they cash checks for the suspect or e-mail sender. For their effort, the victim is offered a percentage of the check. The checks appear to be legitimate cashiertype.

DCSC board spends to keep kids smart and warm
      Delphi Community School Corporation Board of Trustees invested in equipment to educate students and keep them comfortable in classrooms at their Monday night meeting. Board members and patrons discussed costs, timeliness and educational needs before the board approved a motion to spend $64,595 from capital projects funds on electronic equipment.

      Roger's and Hammerstein's irrereverent rendition of the Princess and the Pea, "Once Upon a Mattress," is the musical to be presented by Delphi Community High School. Over 20 students are in rehearsal for the farcical fable scheduled for March 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and March 16 at 2 p.m.

      Beta Psi Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority is offering a continuing education scholarship of approximately $500 to one adult resident of Carroll County. Applicants must be planning to enter the field of art, music, literature, speech and hearing, teaching or nursing and cannot have attended school for at least one year.

      Carroll County Cancer Association is offering scholarships to high school seniors and graduates enrolled in health-related classes for the fall 2008 school year. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are pursuing a degree in the health field.
