Wayne L. Swaim
Wayne Lee Swaim, 76, of Burlington, passed away at 12:48 p.m. Mon., Feb. 4, 2008, at St. Joseph Hosp ital, Kokomo.
Born Jan. 17, 1932, in Lafayette, he was the son of Leo M. and Mary Susan (Randolph) Swaim. He married Javannah Jo Avery on Dec. 24, 1950, in Russiaville, and she survives.
Mr. Swaim was retired Burlington Town Marshal, a position he held for 30 years.
He also held positions with the Carroll County Sheriff's Dept., and served as a Carroll County Commissioner, Burlington Township trustee, and Burlington town councilman.
He graduated from Forest High School and Plainfield Police Academy.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1951. He was a member and past officer of the Police League of Indiana, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Burlington American Legion Post 414.
He served for many years on the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Swaim held a private pilot's license and owned his own plane. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, his family, and dog.
He served as deacon and elder and enjoyed working in the church and spending time at the coffee shop.
Surviving with his wife are his foster parents, Kathleen and Hubert Bozworth of Burlington; four daughters, Taunya Andrews (husband: David) of Kokomo, Teresa Butcher (husband: Dan), Tammy Dyer (husband: Bob) and Teleena Kelly (husband: David), all of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Nicole Bright, Keristen Ford, Katrina Scagnoli, Adam, Caleb and Andrew Butcher, Kristin Parkevich, Chris and Jordan Dyer, and Daniel and Jessika Kelly; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Church of Christ in Burlington. Pastors Dan Butcher and Tim Pohlman will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at Burlington Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Neptune Funeral Home, 44 Michigan Rd., Burlington, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Knightstown Veteran's Children's Home, Knightstown.
