In 1947, Babe Randolph built a service station on State Road 25 in Burrows. He offered gasoline, tires, auto parts and even servicing. The store survived 50 years, and until recently belonged to and was operated by Phil and Terri Penn. However, New Year's Eve, 1997, was the last day of business for the Burrows General Store.

Pat Meade showed her Shorthorn cross-bred steer which was named Grand Champion Shorthorn at the International Livestock Exposition at Chicago. Pat, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meade, Camden.

The honor won by Miss Meade is the highest ever brought to Carroll county from the International Livestock Exposition steer competition.

Her shorthorn steer, Rowdy, weighed 950 pounds and as class champion competed with two other class champions for the coveted final Grand Championship which went to another Indiana girl whose animal was bought for better than $30,000. One judge is reported to have told Miss Meade that the fact that "Rowdy" was a crossbred animal, half Hereford and half Shorthorn, may have kept him from being made Grand Champion, as no crossbred has been Grand Champion since 1927.

Mrs. Charles Stewart has purchased the Mary Morrison grocery fixtures and leased the store room at 312 North Washington street and opened a first class grocery with Max Daugherty and herself in charge.

The entire stock of groceries are fresh and new and besides that the store will handle fresh meats and fruits and deliver.

The Stewart Grocery will sell for cash and will at all times meet chain store competition. Mr. Daugherty being ex-manager of the A. & P. store, where he was employed the past few years and made good with the public, will gladly welcome the opportunity of remaining in Delphi where the people will feel at home in the Stewart Grocery, which is gladly welcomed to our business circles.

Their phone number is 434 so place that number on your grocery book and keep them in mind when ordering fresh groceries, meats and fruit.

Can you skate? Flora is to have the best roller skating rink in the county and Lloyd Downey, the famous southpaw pitcher, is to be the manager. Both floors in the large Dairy Queen building have been fitted up in tip top shape, at large expense, for the skating and everything is to be first class in every way. Smoking, drinking and rowdyism of any form will not be tolerated and the place of amusement promises to become very popular before many weeks of existence. Cutler has established a rink and every one in that vicinity has gone skating mad. Later on skating matches will be made with outside towns.

The rink is to be open every Saturday afternoon and on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. The prices for the rental of skates have been made very low and will be: Gentlemen, 25 cents; Ladies, 10 cents.
