Western blows past Carroll 66 to 35
By Greg Hoffman Contributing sportswriter

The Cougars had their worst outing of the season last Thursday when Western blew them out, 66-35. Carroll dropped to 1- 4 for the year, while Western evened its record to 3-3.

Carroll took the initial lead on an old-fashion 3-point play by Adam Tussinger. The Panthers tied the game at 7 and then took command of the game on a trey to close out the first period, 10-7.

Western went to a full court press in the second period and Carroll fell apart. The Cougars could not get the ball past the ten second line. They were outscored 56-28 the final three periods and committed 27 turnovers. At times in the final three quarters, the Cougars played like they had never seen a press defense before.

No player for CHS scored in double figures. High point man for the Cougars was Adam Spesard with 8 points off the bench. Tussinger and Brad Benson split 12 points and Tussinger and Benson also pulled down 6 rebounds each. Benson also handed out 4 assists.

As a team, the Cougars had a season high 28 miscues and shot a poor 14 of 39 or 36% from the field and 7 of 14 or 50% from the line. Western was 24 of 46, 52%, and 14 of 18, 78%.

Next up for Carroll is the Clinton Central Holiday Tourney on Dec. 28-29. The Cougars face Clinton Prairie at 6 p.m. on the 28th.

JV

Carroll's JV put visiting Western away, 38-28, to record their second win in a row and improve to 4-1 overall.

After two ties and three lead changes to open the game the Panthers and Cougars were tied at 8 all at the end of the first quarter. Western took the lead on a trey to go up 13-10 and held a slim 15-14 edge at the half.

In the third quarter, a fielder by Dallas Butcher put the Cougars up for good at 16-15. With the Cougars leading 28-26 in the fourth quarter, Drew Yoder hit three straight treys to put Western away. With 43 ticks left on the clock, the Cougars were up 37-26.

Yoder led all scorers with 15 points. Kyle Geheb had 9 points and Jordan Brumbaugh added 6.

The young Cougars will be back in action Dec. 27 when they compete in the Clinton Prairie Holiday Tourney, starting at 9 a.m.
