Ivy Tech to offer scholarships to encourage degree completion In an effort to increase degree attainment, the Kokomo Region of Ivy Tech Community College will award up to fifty $1,000 scholarships to former students who are near completion of their degree. The scholarship program, entitled Project Complete, has been made possible through a Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant that the college recently has been awarded. To be eligible for the award, the former student must have declared a degree or technical certificate objective and earned a minimum of 45 or 20 credit hours, respectively, towards that program. The former student must not have attended Ivy Tech within the past year, must be within 12 credit hours of completing a technical certificate or 18 credit hours from an associate degree, and must live within the Kokomo Region. Once awarded, other criteria, including the number of credit hours and GPA, must be met to continue to receive the scholarship. Initial awards will be offered to eligible students with the highest overall GPA. The award will only be available to students who return for the spring 2008 semester. Ivy Tech has established a database of former students to help in determining who may be eligible. Attempts have been made to contact those students. It is possible, however, that the database is incomplete or that student contact information has changed. Former students who would like to return to college and feel that they may qualify for the scholarship, should contact Steve Whikehart, Project Complete coordinator, at (800) 459- 0561, ext. 317 or e-mail him at swhikehart@ivytech.edu. For students who do not qualify for the Project Complete Scholarship but would like to begin or return to college, Ivy Tech does offer many other scholarship and financial aid opportunities. For more information, call (800) 459-0561, ext. 316 or 306. | |||||
