Non-profit grant proposals due soon Partnership for a Drug Free Carroll County, also known as Don't Underestimate Carroll County (DUCC), is offering grant funding to non-profits for 2008. The funds are generated from local offender court fines and fees. According to DUCC treasurer, Carroll County Sheriff Deputy John Chapman, 80 percent of the levied fines are kept in the county for use in grants for treatment, law enforcement and prevention/education. He said 20 percent of the funding is forwarded to the state. DUCC is responsible for administering grants, which the board members do every year. DUCC board members are: Sgt. Dennis Randle, president; Chapman, treasurer; and Delphi Elementary Principal Bill Shidler, secretary. Various organizations have benefited from the funding in the past. Past recipients include Wabash Valley, all Carroll County schools, Community Outreach Network Services and police forces in Flora, Delphi, the sheriff's department, and the Indiana State Police. Grant proposals are due to Chapman by Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. Applications, which include funding guidelines, are available by contacting Chapman at (765) 564-2413. |
