Burlington Community

Many things have changed at the Burlington Community Library. On the outside, we have replaced our roof. On the inside, there will be a new director starting in January. Our current director is leaving at the end of December to pursue other avenues.

The library will be closed Dec. 25 and 27 and Jan. 1 and 3 for the holidays. Also, due to a drop in volunteers, the library hours will change back to the 10-12 and 1-5 schedule.

The library's doors are open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 20.

Gina Tull-Nunn, the current director, thanks the community and its volunteers for their support. Everyone's contribution of time and/or resources has made her time at the library very fulfilling. Her replacement will be Karen Dinger.

The newest book additions to the library are:

Non-fiction: U.S. House of Representatives, Women in Congress 1917-2006; a biography of Jerry Garcia titled Garcia: an American Life.

Fiction: Dear John by Nicholas Sparks; The Little Sparrows by Al and Joanna Lacy; A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve; Limitations by Scott Turow; The Cold Moon by Jeffery Deaver; The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards.

Library hours for the upcoming holidays are as follows: Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day, closed; Dec. 26 through 28, open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.; and Dec. 29 business hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Normal business hours, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., will resume Jan. 2.

The annual holiday party for the morning book club is Dec. 21 at 9. Guests should bring a treat and book recommendations to share.

Children in grades 2 and up can kick off Christmas vacation with the Kid Flick planned for Dec. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. The film features the story of Lewis, a brilliant inventor who meets mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson. Robinson whisks Lewis away in a time machine. Together they track down Bowler Hat Guy in a showdown that ends with an unexpected twist of fate. Come and enjoy action, adventure, comedy and popcorn too!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Happy New Year! Children grades preschool through second will ring in the New Year with a special program Jan. 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Have fun counting down the New Year, talk about and plan some resolutions and hear about some great new books just coming out in the new year.

For program information, call the library at (765) 564- 2929.

Holiday hours are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - closed. New Years Day - closed. May you all have a wondrous and joyous holiday filled with family, friends and Christmas cheer! Seasons Readings! From the library staff to all of our wonderful patrons!

The library's halls are decked out for the holidays. Browse through your favorite magazine or newspaper while you enjoy a nice cup of steaming coffee or hot cocoa in the library's Book Nook Coffee Shop. Candy bars and soda are also available. The Book Nook is open during library operating hours.

The Elm Creek Quilt Novels, a series written by Jennifer Chiaverini, are a new addition to our collection. The main character is a master quilter named Sylvia Bergstrom Compson. She and her young friend Sarah McClure open a quilters' retreat at Sylvia's family estate, Elm Creek Manor. Sarah and Sylvia run the "quilt camp" with the help of their friends, the Elm Creek Quilters. Other books are historical, featuring Sylvia's ancestors and earlier residents of the Elm Creek Valley.

The series is a memorial donation from Marjorie Peterson in memory of Ellen Ginn.

Storytime is on break during the holidays. It will return January 8. Children can always call the library's Dial-a-Story, 967-3814, 24 hours a day to hear a short story. The story currently playing is "The Visit to Santa Claus Land." On Friday the new story will be "Snowball's Christmas Eve."
