Many Delphi burglaries solved Delphi Police Chief Ed Chapman had good news to share with city council members at the Dec. 3 meeting. "As of this afternoon, we have solved 83 percent of the recent burglaries in Delphi," he announced. Chapman said a joint investigation between the city and the sheriff's department produced a confession to many of the recent break-ins reported in the downtown area. He said due to the nature of the ongoing investigation he was unable to provide more detail. Chapman told the Comet Tuesday there were approximately 14 crimes investigated and between eight and 12 have been solved. During November the department issued 44 traffic summons and 100 warnings. There were eight misdemeanor arrests, three warrants served and one felony arrest made. Nineteen accidents were investigated and two handgun permits issued. Fire chief John Patterson reported 13 fires were fought in November. He said there were a total of 390 incidents, which included 306 man-hours last month. Street commissioner Aaron Lyons said repairs on Prince William Rd. to bolster one side to combat further deterioration would be completed by the end of the week. Ordinance 2007-9 to increase fees for crash reports, from $5 to $8, was adopted on two readings after suspension of the rules. Delphi Board of Works waived connection fees for water, $300, and wastewater, $750, for the North Central Health Services medical complex on Prince William Rd. Mayor Lee Hoard recommended the action because the complex is a not-for-profit organization, which will serve local residents. Board of works members Carolyn Pearson, Bill Miller and Hoard approved the measure unanimously. Hoard noted the meeting was his last official council meeting. "It's been an honor and a privilege to serve," he said as the meeting concluded. A special end-of-the-year meeting to transfer funds will be Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. The last board of works meeting will be Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. The next regular council meeting will be Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. Board of works will meet that night at 6:30 p.m. |
