Meetings set to discuss Corn Checkoff program
Comet staff report

Corn farmers with an interest in the new Indiana Corn Checkoff Program have an opportunity to provide input into the development of new programs that serve Indiana's corn industry through a series of regional meetings. In this area, a meeting will be held Dec. 18 at The Historic Sportsman Inn in Monticello.

The Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC), the farmer-led board that manages the corn checkoff, and the Indiana Corn Growers Association (ICGA) are hosting the meetings, which all start at 9 a.m. and conclude with lunch.

Corn producers interested in attending are asked to preregister by Dec. 14 by calling Indiana corn office at 1-877- 267-6444; e-mailing carthur@indianacorn.org; or by registering online at https://services.ncga.com/ncgassa/ evtssashop.locator

Some of the current projects being funded by ICMC include a major consumer awareness campaign on ethanol starting in January with billboards and radio ads and a mobile marketing unit designed to educate consumers on the benefits of ethanol. The Council is examining opportunities for developing new corn uses, enhancing the feed use of distillers dried grains (DDGs), and promoting the expansion of the state's livestock industry as a means for increasing local corn demand.
