Exercising holiday cheer
Members of ladies-only workout center Curves in Delphi are all smiles this holiday season because they've built up their community simply by exercising and building turkeys. Curves Manager Audrey Eaker and her mother Angie Wisler devised a fundraising program about a month ago in which exercisers were given one paper turkey body part, such as a wing or a leg, each workout session they attended. For every completed turkey, Curves donated a dollar to Carroll County Food Pantry and members voluntarily matched that donation. All told, the club donated $175 to the food pantry last Friday. Curves received a Best Practices award and a new piece of exercise equipment from its parent organizations for the innovative fundraising idea. Eaker said a goal of the program was to entice members to work out regularly while raising funds for the local community. "I'm glad we were able to give something locally through the campaign," Eaker said. "It was really a fun way to help out, and the girls had a good time. I am pretty tired of cutting out turkeys, though." Pictured, left to right, are daughter-mother duo and build-a-turkey participants Kim Lawson and Betsy Hayden with Eaker.
