CHAD GRIFFIN, Cutler, a student at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, was one of 20 finalists in the essay contest, sponsored by Senator Richard Lugar, Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc., and Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.

The finalists were selected from a field of 1,050 students who participated in this year's contest. The theme was "Energy Aware - Energy Independent."

The winners were named Friday at the IFB convention. They are Jansen Hight of Spencer and Leah Lahue of Leavenworth. As state winners, they will receive an allexpense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

As a finalist, Griffin received a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.
