Winter Sports Summaries Depth an advantage for Delphi swim teams Delphi's varsity girls' swim team beat Pioneer 116-67 and Central Catholic 107-68 after losing to Lewis Cass and Maconaquah. Against Maconaquah Grace Currie won the 100 Butterfly and Arielle Brosman won the 100 Breaststroke. Led by quadruple winners Mara Burton and Kayleigh Morgan, Delphi used its depth to pull away from Pioneer. Against Central Catholic depth again proved its worth as Delphi won 4 of the 12 events. With 29 girls on the team, the coaches are struggling to get swimmers in events, instead of having open lanes like in years past. The DCHS boys swim team beat Pioneer 118-36. Led by triple winners Matt Keen, Kyle Price, Andy Flora and Andrew Burton and double winner Jeremy Sterrett, the boys won all 12 events. They have one of the largest teams in school history with 19 swimmers. Carroll 7th wins 1 of 3; B-squad remains undefeated Carroll 7th grade in their most uninspired effort of the young season, dropped a 27-19 contest to host Rossville. The first half was the downfall for the Cougars as they trailed 21-6 at half-time. Eric Miller led the Cougars with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Taylor Downham grabbed 7 boards. Poor offense hurt the Cougars in their 34-24 loss to host Tri County. Downham led the team with 11 points. Brian Keith chipped in with 6. Miller had 6 rebounds and 3 steals, while Downham had 5 rebounds. Brady Wiles handed out 4 assists. After leading only 18-16 at half-time, Carroll's offense finally got going. They outscored the host Clinton Prairie Gophers 26-6 in the second half to defeat them 44-22. The Cougars had good balance in all of their stats. Miller, Wiles, and Logan Gaines led in scoring with 15, 9 and 8 points, respectively. Miller and Downham split 10 rebounds, while Jacob Bush grabbed 4. Gaines handed out 6 assists and Wiles, 3. Wiles also had 3 steals. The A-team's record is now 3-4. 7th B-team Carroll's B-squad with very good balanced scoring defeated the Rossville Hornets 40-15. Tallis Bowers had 10 points, Kaanen Pruitt 8, Bush 7, and Jay Hodson and Matt Henderson, 6 each. Henderson grabbed 9 rebounds, while Bower had 6 steals and 3 assists. Trevor Ayres had 3 steals. With Henderson and Keith dominating the boards with 9 and 8 rebounds each, the Cougars defeated Tri County 43-10. Balanced scoring was the key with seven players scoring between 4 and 10 points. Bush and Pruitt had 10 and 7 points, respectively. Neal Benson handed out 3 assists and Henderson and Pruitt had 3 steals each. Despite playing their poorest game of the year, Carroll defeated Clinton Prairie 35-28. Bowers had 10 points and Keith added 7. Ayres and Bowers each had 4 steals, while Hodson and Gavin Hancock had 3. The Cougars raised their record to 6-0. |
