Skies over Delphi were drab Saturday, but the city's streets were filled with color and cheer as the Delphi Lions Christmas Parade marched through. Donna Sholty, who founded the parade and turned the reins over to Delphi Lions Club this year, led the way as grand marshal of the 15th annual event.

The parade was themed "A Family Christmas" and featured an array spirited individuals, each representing certain interests, but together bringing holiday cheer to their community.

Tri Kappa members Kay Trent, Tina Tyner and Nancy Beach served as float judges. Judging was held just before the parade and winners were proclaimed as they passed the announcer's table.

Expecting a miracle The story of the first Christmas is one filled with faith, hope, love…and animals. The season's important message was conveyed well by the Beale Nativity Scene float, which was named Best Animal Group by parade judges for its portrayal of Joseph and pregnant Mary walking with a donkey to the inn, angels in a chariot pulled by a miniature horse, three wise men and a shepherd with her sheep dog. Delphi Cub Scout Pack 3165 received Best Float Following the Theme for its family-oriented display. Scouts demonstrated the spirit of the season by donating their float's Christmas tree to a family in need through Family Services of Carroll County.

Brownie Troop 1052 received Judges' Pick. The Delphi Interurban Trolley was named Best Decorated Vehicle.

Delphi Chamber of Commerce added even more sparkle to the day with its Festival of Trees in the courthouse. Visitors browsed displays in the rotunda and voted for their favorites. Winners were announced during the parade.

Flower Shoppe II tree was voted peoples' choice business award winner for its "Glint of Gold." Delphi Tri Kappa tree project was named community group winner for its Tree of Life in recognition of ovarian cancer awareness and the Cheryl Miller 5K Walk.
