By Debbie Lowe Staff writer

Carroll County Sheriff Department Detective Kevin Hammond worked closely Saturday with the Indiana State Police, Delphi Police Department, White-Carroll Drug Task Force and the Burlington Police Department to sniff out a 21-pound package of marijuana brightly wrapped in Christmas wrap and sent to a Delphi residence. Carroll Superior Judge Jeffrey Smith issued a search warrant for the package discovered at FedEx in Lafayette.

Smith issued a second search warrant, this one for the residence at 701 N. Washington St., which was served upon delivery.

Angel Flores Sanchez (male), 19, Delphi was arrested and later charged by the Carroll County Prosecutor's office with dealing marijuana, a Class C felony, possession of marijuana, a Class D felony and maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony. According to the prosecutor's office, additional charges are pending.

Sanchez appeared in Carroll Circuit Court Monday before Judge Donald Currie for an initial hearing. According to court records, Currie did not find probable cause to incarcerate the suspect. He was released on his own recognizance. He was not required to post bond.

Prosecutor Tricia Thompson told the Comet Tuesday Sanchez is due in court in February for an omnibus hearing. Jury trial is set for March 3.
