Four Carroll County students to attend Lugar Symposium Four Carroll County students have been selected to attend U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar's Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders at the University of Indianapolis on Dec. 8. The students are: Seth Larimore and Kaitlin Kennedy from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School and Ali Canen and Nicholi Kauffman from Delphi Community High School. Every public and private high school in Indiana was invited to select two outstanding juniors to attend the all-day conference. Last year, more than 400 students, representing high schools in almost all 92 counties across the state, attended the event. Again this year, Lugar will open the program with an address to the students on national and world affairs. The students will then participate in a choice of ten discussion groups. Some of this year's topics include: energy security, Iraq, media responsibility, and U.S. leadership in the world. Students will debate opposing views under the leadership of major state and national advocates on the subjects. Students have been encouraged to donate canned food items that will be collected at registration and donated to Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis. |
