Comet writer JENNIFER ARCHIBALD won a second place award in the Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Hoosier State Press Association Foundation.

The award was in Division 2 in the category "Best Short Feature Story."

Her story, "An award to bark about," featured a therapy dog named Buster and his owner, Joretta Boyd.

Judges issued the following comments on the story: "Ms. Archibald's story has more 'heart' than any submitted in the category. She conveys with clarity and dignity the personalities of Buster and his owner who have contributed to the enrichment of young lives and the uplifting of those without hope. A small dog who has had an enormous effect on this community - this is a gentle reminder that features don't have to 'shout.'"

Awards were presented last Saturday at an awards luncheon at the Indiana Convention Center.
