First Christian Church releases Advent Calendar

Christmas events are often examined from a child's perspective, the perspective of an international guest, and through the perspective of near-by witnesses. Flora First Christian Church has released its worship themes for Advent and Christmas: "Through the Eyes of Christmas." This year's Advent theme explores Christmas from the perspective of those who witnessed Christ's birth firsthand.

On Sunday morning, Dec. 2, Interim Pastor Sam Davenport's sermon will be "Christmas through Mary's Eyes: Joy!"

Advent sermon themes for the rest of the month of December are: Dec. 9, "Christmas through Joseph's Eyes: Loneliness becomes Faith"; Dec. 16, "Christmas through Herod's Eyes: Greed vs. Generosity"; and Dec. 23, "Christmas through the Eyes of Today: Peace." The Dec. 23 sermon will be a dramatic presentation from the perspective of a postal worker.

A Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service will be held Monday, Dec. 24, at 9 p.m.

The service of carols, readings, dramatic vignettes, costumed characters, prayer, Communion and candlelight will explore "Christmas through the Eyes of the Shepherds: Hope!"

On Sunday evening, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m., the congregation will hold its monthly fellowship event. The evening will consist of decorating a Christmas tree for the narthex, the sharing of finger foods, and the singing of Christmas carols. Pastor Davenport invites the public to attend.

The church is located on South Center Street, Flora.
