Law enforcement officers complete FEMA training
Comet staff report

Carroll County law enforcement officers recently completed a two-day Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) training held at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Academy. The training was a portion of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) program and covered the Incident Command System (ICS) 300 course which affords instruction to supervisors in expanding incidents.

NIMS was originally developed in California in the 1970's during wildfires in that state but has since expanded and developed into a nationwide institution since the attacks of Sept. 11 in 2001. The ICS 300 course covered topics involving ICS fundamentals, Unified Command, Incident/Event Assessment, Planning Process, Resource Management, and Demobilization.

The program was attended by fire, police, EMS, and communications personnel from throughout the state. Local attendees included Carroll County Sheriff Tony Burns, Sheriff's Major Tobe Leazenby, Burlington Marshal Jill Hammond, Burlington Deputy Marshal Kevin Hammond and Camden Marshal Steve Mullin.
