West Lafayette tops Oracle 7th

Delphi 7th grade boys' A team lost a close game to West Lafayette, 34-26, despite a good comeback attempt.

Leading the way for the Oracles was Erik Carpenter, who scored 9 points, and had two rebounds. Cole Murray added 7 points in the second half, and grabbed three rebounds. Evan Atkinson and Daniel Pearson played big roles as Atkinson drained a couple of key shots and Pearson grabbed all the rebounds.

The B team lost an even closer contest to West Lafayette, 25- 22. Keeping the game close, Ryan Leahy took control and scored 10 points, and grabbed five rebounds. Mike Fields scored 6 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Also keeping the game close were Drew Burkle and Brett Farrell, each scoring 3 points and picking up 2 rebounds.

Carroll 7th is off to good start

Carroll's 7th grade boys' basketball team has played three games. The A-squad won 2 of 3 contests, while the B-squad won 2 of 2.

The young Cougar A-team opened the season with a 51-37 triumph over visiting Winamac. The team was led in scoring by Eric Miller with 18 points and Taylor Downham with 17. Miller also had a well-rounded game with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Downham had 12 rebounds, while Brady Wiles contributed with 3 steals and 4 assists.

After playing well against Winamac, the Cougars played poorly in a 38-35 loss to host Western. The Cougars were led in scoring by Downham with 13, Wiles with 10, and Miller, 8. Miller had 9 rebounds, while Downham grabbed 6. Wiles handed out 3 assists.

Carroll raised its record to 2-1 with a 42-20 victory over North White. The Cougars jumped out to a 27-13 half-time lead and never looked back. Miller and Downham led in scoring with 14 and 8 points, respectively. Miller also grabbed 5 rebounds and Wiles handed out 3 assists.

Carroll's 6-squad opened its campaign with an impressive 55- 15 win over Winamac. Balanced scoring was the key as 8 different Cougars added points. They were led by Logan Gaines' 15. Matt Henderson and Brian Keith split 16. Kanaan Pruitt and Trevor Ayres each had 6 rebounds. Keith grabbed 5 steals and Ayres handed out 4 assists. Tallis Bowers contributed 3 steals and 3 assists.

The B-team came from behind to defeat a good Western squad 35-33. Pruitt had 13 points, while Gaines and Jay Hodson chipped in 8 and 7, respectively. Keith and Henderson split 8 rebounds. Ayres had 3 steals and 3 assists.
