Nominations being accepted for YWCA Salute to Women Award

The YWCA Greater Lafayette is looking for a few good women to honor - including a woman under the age of 40.

Nominations are now being accepted for the annual YWCA Salute to Women awards program. The nomination deadline is Dec. 12. The awards banquet will be held on the evening of March 4, at the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms in West Lafayette.

As in the past, the YWCA plans to recognize several Women of Distinction and to present the Mary Keller Ade Woman of Wisdom award if a deserving candidate is identified in the selection process.

Added to the slate of awards this year is a special honor for a woman under 40, assuming an adequate nomination is submitted. "The Salute to Women committee wants to recognize the achievements of current community leaders who may not have as many years of service as our Women of Distinction honorees have," said Evelyn Royer, chair of the committee and a member of the YWCA Board of Directors. "Despite fewer years of experience, these younger women are role models. They show others how to serve the community while at the same time juggling responsibilities at work and at home."

Nominations may be submitted online at www.ywca.org/lafayette/salute . Nomination forms also may be picked up at the YWCA, 605 N. 6th Street, Lafayette.

Selection of award recipients will be based on outstanding achievements in volunteer and/or professional roles, community impact, and service as a role model. Honorees will be selected based entirely on the information submitted on nomination forms. Nominators are encouraged to consult with their nominees prior to submitting information, to ensure that the nominations are complete and accurate.

Candidates must be at least 20 years of age and live or work in the Greater Lafayette area, defined as Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Jasper, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren, and White counties.

Women currently running for political office and YWCA staff and board members are not eligible to be nominated.
